The Right Equipment

Today there are many sources of interference to a television signal both from inside and outside the home. This can come from mains wiring, ventilation systems, mobile phone and radio communications masts, car and motorbike engines … the list is endless. Much aerial equipment is very poor at filtering out and screening from this ‘noise’.

Signal Solutions use only tried and tested aerial products. When the installer calls to your home he will assess exactly what is needed to provide the best reception possible. A wide range is carried in the van at all times. Most products are from the market leaders Triax and Antiference.

Higher Standards

At Signal Solutions we believe in doing the job to the highest possible standards, whether it is a simple domestic aerial job or a large distribution system for an apartment complex. Care is taken to ensure that the job is done neatly and  that  your home or premises is treated with the respect it deserves. The technician will measure signal levels and quality  at various stages to ensure you of the best reception available. Good quality parts ensure longevity, saving you money in the long term.

Most installations by Signal Solutions take longer than similar work by our competitors. There are 3 main reasons for this:

1. Assessment and Consultation.
Signal Solutions believe in taking the time to assess a job properly to make sure that the correct equipment is used and cable runs, dishes and aerial positions are agreed with the customer.

2. Working Practices.
We believe in working carefully and methodically through a job. A rushed job is a botched job that may not work well or may fail at any time. Full attention is given to the safety of the installer and everybody else around the worksite.

3. Finishing The Job.
Signal Solutions do not consider a job finished until all televisions and ancillary equipment have been properly tuned, set-up and demonstrated to the customer.

We rarely know exactly how long a job is going to take until we see it. Because of this it is almost impossible to keep to exact appointment times. Unless you are first call in the morning you will be given a window of a few hours in which to expect the visit. If we are running very late you will always get a phone call.

What’s different about us?

Signal Solutions enjoy giving you high quality service! Not a lot of people can say that. We like to keep you informed about the details of how we work and the technical details you need to know, so that that you can make informed decisions.

Other operators often prefer to keep these details from you in the hope that you will fail to notice poor quality materials, fittings and installation.

Elsewhere on this site you will find various articles related to Television, Aerial and Satellite technological developments, and other more casual but useful information. We hope to increase the articles that appear here over time so that the website becomes a mine of infomation locally on this subject.

Thanks for your visiting!.

The importance & Quality of Coaxial Cable

quality coaxial cableDid you know, that much of the cable on the market today, marked and sold as Digital or Satellite, is nothing of the sort? Did you know, that a good deal of your signal can be lost through the poor quality of such a fundamental item?

Signal Solutions only use cable that is properly designed for the job. Quality cable costs a little more but the benefits can be huge!

Here’s an excellent article on the subject.

Non-Sky Satellite Receivers
For the many Non-Sky FTA satellite receivers that are available out there, you will have to consult your user manual for how to scan for new channels as each box have different menu systems and options.

So, the following channels are now all available via satellite FTA (Free To Air), meaning no card is required, just tune it in and you can watch away. (The many UK regional variations are also available in the table below this one and many are found generally on the same frequencies as the Irish versions).

Channels in bold cannot currently be viewed FTA and require a subscription or FTV viewing card, but there is a strong chance that they will become FTA in the future, when suitable space is found on the Astra 2D transponder. Their frequencies will almost certainly change so if and when they do become available for FTA viewing, their details will be amended on the table for all to easily find and the bold status will be removed so you will know when the frequency provided is for a working FTA version of the channel.

The FTV channels are listed here anyway for reference and also for people who are using a CAM and FTV card to watch so they can tune them in also. Note that FIVE USA and FIVER cannot be viewed on an Irish Sky card and will only work on a UK subscription or FTV card.

# All Channel 4 related channels including timeshifts (+1’s) and spin-offs (E4, More 4, Film 4 etc) are the Northern Irish/UK versions of the channels and are completely unrestricted so there will be no programmes blocked such as movies or US imports.

* For most Free To Air HD Receivers ITV HD can be tuned in, but, it requires you to either tune in another channel altogether and edit its details to the correct ITV HD settings in order to view, (this is done either on the STB itself or via a PC depending on manufacturer), OR you can download a channel list for your STB, (again, depending on the manufacturer), and load the channel this way by connecting your STB to your PC via serial port or USB.

* ITVHD will have channel ID 10510

***As of March 2009, ITV HD can be tuned into a Sky+HD box BUT ONLY IF it is running the new HD version of the EPG which was released to Thompson STB’s from 10th March 2009. (Rollout to all Sky+HD boxes is due to be completed by Summer 2009). The channel only shows one or two HD programmes a day and it does not carry EPG listings so you will have to check listings for the channel yourself, it also cannot be recorded from on a Sky+HD STB.***

ITV HD is currently an interactive application broadcast on Eurobird 28.5, but may launch at some point in the future as a full channel that can be tuned in normally like the rest of the channels on the list. This will only happen is sufficient space is found on Astra 2D and if this does happen, the table will be updated with the new tuning information.

We only use top quality materials that have been tried and tested and give the best performance and excellent reliability in the windy and wet climate we are stuck with!

Can I get Satellite TV?

A satellite dish needs to face in a precise direction, almost exactly South-East for Astra 2 (Sky and most English channels). If there are trees or buildings blocking the sun at 11am GMT then you may not get reception. A dish can be attached to a bracket on a North or West facing wall looking over the roof. This is a popular option if the front of the house faces South and it is required to hide the dish from view.
Other options include mounting the dish on a back wall or fence or to a pole concreted into the ground.

Over 98% of homes can receive satellite, so if you are in any doubt please ask. Sky’s direct contractors are usually only interested in the quick easy jobs, so if they have told you can’t have satellite give us a call anyway.

How much does it cost?

We can supply and install a quality Digital Satellite Receiver, Dish and cable from

€195 fully inclusive of VAT.
